Meet the team
With experience, enthusiasm, and a shared ambition to go further, the Ilex team is changing the face of construction.
Three founders
Leading from the front with commitment and consideration, our three directors are experts in their fields.
-
Sam Galsworthy
As the co-founder of Sipsmith Gin and custodian of the Trewithen estate, Sam has a huge amount of multi-industry experience. Sam is able to offer a unique perspective on the construction industry, and a fresh focus on team culture and wellbeing. He inspires our team and leads the way in making Ilex a positive place to work. It also turns out that he's not too bad at ten-pin bowling!
-
Nathan Mabbett
As well as being our project and logistics manager, Nathan is Ilex’s environment and sustainability lead. He is restless in his drive to improve industry standards and create change around the handling of waste materials. Originally an electrical engineer, he’s been in the industry for over 20 years, working on everything from hospital design layouts to high tech interactive smart homes. Being a Brummie, he brings culture and humor to the company!!!
-
Stuart Nicholas
Stuart is a project manager and lead consultant, with 40 years’ experience in the industry. He’s worked in Europe and across the country on listed and bespoke building projects, from new builds to extensive heritage restorations. He has a wealth of knowledge and is always on hand to offer advice and support to our customers and partners. He’s also the third-best golfer in the company (while always being the first to congratulate his competitors)!
Team
To Ilex, the team is everything. These skilled craftspeople have become the face of our high standards by taking constant care in their work.
-
Ben Bailey
Foreman
Ben is the newest member of our exciting team as site foreman. Formally a carpentry joiner, Ben has a keen eye for detail and understands the meaning of true craftsmanship. He brings balance and a sense of true direction to the team.
-
Natalie Lavis
Bookkeeper and administrator.
Natalie has made a real impact since coming to Ilex. She is highly organised and motivated to get Ilex ahead of the game. She also has a great personality and its a pleasure to work alongside her.
-
Max Quested
Mason
Max inspires us all, and his growth within Ilex is pushing us to look for more challenging projects. He has great attention to detail and an old-fashioned approach to hard work.
-
Jamie Merryfield
Multi-Skilled Craftsman and Machine Operator
Jamie is one of the key ingredients that makes Ilex successful. He can turn his hand to any task and offers unwavering support to those around him. Jamie can make anyone feel at ease with a joke or two and is arguably the best golfer in the company! For this reason, he’s a much-valued member of our team.
-
JO
Jo, is a fantastic new addition to the team. He is a dab hand at pretty much everything. He is just at home working on a big machine as he is working on a carpentry project.
-
Theo Cook
Excavator Driver
Theo is adept at handling anything mechanical. He is highly skilled and can operate a vast range of machinery, producing outstanding landscapes and structures with an ease that must simply be watched and wondered at.
-
Dan
Dan, is a highly skilled carpenter capable of undertaking all aspects of the job. We are very fortunate to have him on our team.
-
Liam Wilson
Carpenter
Liam joined us as an apprentice and is now working on his Level 3 qualification. He’s been trained to work on listed buildings, where the craft of carpentry is on full display, and is integral to the high-quality finish that we’re known for.
-
Morgan
Morgan is our latest apprentice carpenter. He is highly alert and wants to progress which is great to see. He has just started his NVQ at Cornwall College which we are sure he will fly through.

Subcontractors
We are also very privileged to work with some of the county’s finest subcontractors. The positive relationship and cohesion we have with them is crucial to the way Ilex operates, and we thank them for their ongoing support.
We work closely with local talented carpenters and masons, who understand the importance of legacy when working on heritage buildings.
We're passionate about giving life to unique and historic buildings, with a focus on sustainability and sensitivity.
As we seek to improve the construction industry and create higher standards, we're tackling key challenges.
